Karen DeMarco Abreu, our amazing Mom, of Cape Cod, died on April 30th, 2026, she was 72. She was born on August 22nd, of 1953 to Anthony and Jean DeMarco of Revere, MA, where she lived until she met the love of her life, Ken Abreu. From the day Karen and Ken met until her final day, they were inseparable. They moved from Revere, MA to Southern California, and then back to Massachusetts, eventually making their long-term home on Cape Cod. She had two sons, Anthony and Nicholas, and a husband for whom she poured her heart and soul into as a mom and wife.
In her 20’s, Karen was diagnosed with Syringomyelia, a rare progressive disease which ultimately led to her passing. Despite Karen’s prognosis and limitations, her spirit shined bright with positivity and brought happiness and laughter to those around her. She treated every day as a gift, and was thankful for the time she was able to spend with her husband, sons, family, and friends. Over time, as she lost her ability to travel to spend time with loved ones, she kept her door and heart open to ensure any would-be guests would feel welcome in her home and presence.
Karen was an avid reader, and could often be found in her chair, lost in a book. She would talk to us about the stories and characters from her books - in hindsight, this is probably where our love of reading, stories, and storytelling first developed.
Her and our Dad, Ken, spent every waking hour together up until the day that she died in his arms. She taught us what it is to love and be loved. We feel so lucky. For those of you who are reading this and never knew her, we are sorry for your loss.
Karen is survived by; her loving husband, their two children, Anthony Abreu and his wife Julianna, along with their two children, Axel and Atlas, and Nicolas Abreu and his wife Jessica, and their two children, Tatum and Camden.
She is also survived by her sisters; Susan Logrippo and her husband Joseph, Ellen Barry and her husband Vincent, Mary O’Keefe and her husband Chris, Amy O’Leary and her husband Jack, and Maryanne Radley and her husband Daniel. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
