Born in Port Chester, NY on December 1, 1925, of Russian immigrant parents, John (1895-1966) and Anatasia ( 1898-1987), he spent the majority of his life in Stamford, CT. He had a sister Olga Rich, and two brothers, Valentino and Leonard, who have all pre-deceased him.
A noted musician in wind instruments, he played in several local bands, as well as in the US Army band during the Korean War. He also served honorably in Germany during WWII. He was employed in Stamford as a transportation manager and real estate agent.
He was married to Leonor Saumell of Chandler, AZ, and had four children: Leigh Ann Shields of Colorado, Laura Jane of Maine, Larissa Pixler of Phoenix and Leon JR., who pre-deceased him. He had 6 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
In the 1980's, Leon moved to his home on Lincoln Road in Hyannis, Massachusetts. During his recent illness, the Veteran's Administration, Bourne Manor, and Hospice truly provided him a home-away-from home.
Funeral arrangements are private, but interment will be next week at his family's plot in Woodland Cemetery, Stamford, Connecticut.
