Born in Weymouth on April 12, 1955, to Fred and Marian Smith, Lorraine was the second of ‘Fred’s Four Redheads’. She attended Weymouth Public Schools, graduating from Weymouth South High School in 1973. During her early years, she enjoyed playing basketball in the YMCA league, camping, taking painting lessons, and attending services and events at First Baptist Church in Weymouth. After high school, she began her career in business, eventually working her way up to Treasurer of the H.T. Berry Paper Company.
To remember Lorraine is to remember one of the most kind-hearted, creative, and funny people that we were blessed to know. She is survived by her loving husband, Henry “Bud” Colligan, with whom she shared more than 30 years of marriage. Their shared love of camping found them enjoying many days toting their trailer to western Mass. and beautiful sites along the Cape Cod Canal.
Her greatest joys were her son Ryan Stewart, daughter-in-law Marissa, and her cherished granddaughter Julianna of Sagamore Beach. Since Julianna’s birth, Lorraine found joy in planning craft projects, sleepovers, and painting lessons for her. She was a very loving and fun Grammy.
Her sisters, the other three of ‘Fred’s Redheads’, shared an especially close bond with her, celebrating, traveling, and sharing life. Alleah Nottage (Michael) of Hingham, Beverly Trice (Marty) of Marblehead, and Ruthanne Smith-Mann (Dave) of Weymouth.
She is also survived and loved by her mother-in-law Mary Colligan of Milton, two sisters-in law, Diane Conlon (Dave) of Milton, and Laura Rich (Mike) of Middleborough, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A celebration of Lorraine’s life will take place later this summer. Details to follow.
