M. Beatrice E. Lassiter left this world on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at 96 years old. Born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Beatrice was a survivor of the Holocaust atrocities losing her parents, Jacob and Eva Musaph, in 1942 at Auschwitz.
She proudly served her country during World War II in the Dutch Army accomplishing the rank of Lieutenant and was duly awarded and presented with her service medals from Queen Wilhelmina of The Netherlands.
Beatrice, a strong, determined and resilient woman, arrived in the United States on the SS Veendam on Thanksgiving Day 1949 with $50 in her pocket settling in Boston to begin her new life. In 1957, she became a naturalized US citizen raising four children; Gisele Monique (Monique) Johnson, Peter Anthony Lubke, John Christopher (Chris) Lubke and Philip Andrew Lubke. She accomplished much in her lifetime surrounding herself with lifelong friends. Whomever she touched, she left her mark whether it was her sage advice, her unwavering support or, her words of encouragement. And if she disagreed with someone or something that was said you could count on her giving you a shrug of her shoulders, a slight smile and the rolling of those blue eyes. You might even have received a wagging bony finger!
She was Oma to 8 beautiful grandchildren; Matthew Johnson, Stephanie Rice, Allison Lubke, Samantha Lubke, Christopher Lubke, Nicholas Lubke, Gabriella Lubke and Jacob (Jack) Lubke. And, Great Oma to 5 precious great grandchildren; Holland Johnson, Norah Johnson, Tanner Rice, Ethan Rice and Owen Rice.
