Madelene B. Jackson

Madelene (Barstow) Jackson of Bourne, MA, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023 at the Bourne Manor where she had made many good friends, especially Barbara and Ruth. Madelene had just celebrated her 110th birthday on October 31st with a grand party. She was the wife of the late Donald H. Jackson.

She was born in Brewer, Maine to the late Roy and Lou (Maddox) Barstow.

She had worked as a nanny for many years in Brookline, MA, where she met the love of her life, Donald Jackson and they were married February 26, 1942. Madelene and her husband were stationed with the Air Force in Panama for 4 years and later at Otis Air Force Base.

Madelene lived at home until she was 108 years old with her devoted daughter, Gail; son-in-law, Albert; granddaughter, Alison; great-grandson, Grayson; and Apollo the cat. She was an avid reader, loved doing crossword puzzles, jumbles and playing solitaire. She loved having her friends and neighbors over for tea and cookies. Madelene was a people person with a huge heart and a beautiful smile.

She is survived by her children, Donald H. Jackson Jr. and his wife Norma of Burlington, MA, David B. Jackson and his wife Sheryd of San Antonio, TX, Gail Mahanna and her husband Albert of Monument Beach, MA; 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Madelene was predeceased by her 5 siblings.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home located at 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne, MA. A Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. inside the funeral home and then a Burial at 2:00 p.m. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery.
