Manfred Witt was born in Hamburg, Germany December 22, 1928. His father passed away when he was very young, and Manfred began working part time at a very young age to help support his family while he was still going to school. He studied as an apprentice to become a photographer, but sadly was not able to complete his apprenticeship due to the War. He married Hildegard Mickler in March of 1953 and had a son Wilfred in May of 1955. Manfred decided to pursure a better life in the United States and emigrated from Germany in 1959. He lived with his brother in Yonkers for a year, while working numerous jobs to establish himself. He was joined by his wife Hildegard and son Wilfred in 1960, and lived in Yonkers, New York while he worked for a furnance cleaning service. Manfred and his family moved to Cape Cod in June of 1962 where he initially worked developing pictures for the Oceanographic Institute. In 1963, the family moved to Pocasset, and he began working at Dave's Heating and Sheet Metal Shop in Monument Beach. Manfred built much of his house in Monument Beach and moved there with his family in 1967. Sadly, his wife Hildegard passed away in 1997 after a long bout with Parkinson's disease. Manfred was very brave and supportive of his wife and took care of his wife at home for many years. Manfred lived at both adult communities on Head of the Bay Road and spent the last two years of his life at Bourne Oaks. He is survived by his son, Wilfred who lives in New York with his wife Kathy. Wilfred fulfilled his father's dreams of completing college and making a better life for himself and his family. Manfred will be greatly missed by his son Wilfred, Kathy, and their daughter Christina.
