Marlene A. Griffin (Denton), 84, passed away peacefully on August 4th, following a day of visitation with her loving family. Marlene was born in Bridgewater to the late George and Mildred Denton (Levy). She was the wife of the late Irwin Griffin. They raised their family in West Bridgewater and moved to Bourne in 1968.
Marlene was a role model for her children encouraging them to always strive for success, to follow their dreams, and to be the best they could be. She always stood by her children and her life's mission was to support and guide her family.
An incredibly bright and intelligent woman, Marlene lived life to its fullest, embracing every experience. She raised and bred racehorses, earning an award for owning the Best Standardbred Mare in New England. She had a love for the ocean, she enjoyed boating and fishing, shellfishing and lobstering. Seafood was always on the menu at the Griffin home.
After raising her children, Marlene earned a degree in Arts and Humanities. She loved to learn and travel, visiting Africa, Rome, Thailand, and other European countries on educational ventures.
She devoted her time and energy to help others volunteering in adult and children's literacy programs. She received many Volunteer awards, and received a Paul Harris Society award from Rotary International for outstanding contributions to the community. She was a participant in many community projects and initiatives, and was a member of the Lodge of Elks, and Order of the Moose in Florida.
A deeply faithful woman, while living in Port St. Lucie Marlene was a parishioner of St. Lucie Catholic Church for nearly 30 years, and St. John the Evangelist when visiting family in Bourne.
She is survived by her children Edward Tosetti and wife Dorothy of Brockton, Darlene Woodard of Florida, Robert Tosetti and wife Patricia, Michelle Boulanger, Elizabeth Griffin and David P. Sampson all of Bourne. She was a sister to Jean Roffe of Sagamore Beach and brother to George Denton of Brockton. She also leaves a special niece Cheryl Denton, as well as 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Marlene was preceded in death by her daughter Deborah Jean Tosetti.
A period of visitation with the family will be held Tuesday, August 8th, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home in Bourne.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 9th, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist, 841 Shore Road in Pocasset. Burial to follow in Scotland Cemetery in Bridgewater. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marlene's honor can be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. John the Evangelist.
