

Pocasset. Pauline Mae Townsend died on January 2nd, 2015 at the age of 89. She was the beloved wife of the late Donald H. Townsend who died in 1998 and the loving mother of Wendy Zrelack who died in 1997. She is survived by her three sons Glenn, Gary and Paul.
Pauline graduated from Needham High School where she and Donald high school sweethearts met, fell in love and later married. She graduated from the Faulkner Hospital School of nursing in 1946. She received her Bachelor of Science from Upsala College with an advanced degree in hospital administration. She was in the Who's Who in the East 1979-1980.
Her work history includes being a critical care nurse at the N. Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco New York and a volunteer nurse at St. Marys Hospital in Paddington London England . She was a critical care nurse at Somerset Hospital in Somerville New Jersey and was the Director of Central Services there for fifteen years.
Her volunteer work included being on the Board of Directors of the Somerset County Heart Association and she was active in the United Methodist Women in New Jersey and in Massachusetts. She was also an outreach volunteer for the C.O.A.
Pauline and Donald loved to travel and they visited 35 states, Canada and Mexico in their Winnebago motorhome also visiting their children and grandchildren on a frequent basis. Pauline also had a real love of gardening and bridge rarely missing her weekly friendly games with her bridge club. She was blessed with nine grandchildren, Zacharia, Lucas, Marc, Robert, Adrian, Ethan, Harry, Jack and Victoria. She has eight great grandchildren, Tallon, Rustin, Mera, Cailin, Victoria, Adrian Jr. , Odin and Kadin.
A graveside service for Pauline will held on Monday, January 12 at 2:00PM, at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Family and friends will meet at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home in Bourne at 1PM to form a procession to the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers any donations should be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
