My family and I had the honor of meeting Rick, Patty, and Samba when they first starting coming to the Florida Keys. No words could ever describe how blessed and grateful we are to have met them, they soon became very dear friends. Rick was so kind and patient with our family drama, always willing to listen and lend a helping hand. Words will never describe how our lives are so much better because you, Patty, and Samba came into it. Rest In Peace our dear friend, we promise to keep an eye on Patty and Samba.

I served with Rick fir many years at the 399th Combat Support Hospital.  Many happy memories with MSG Zani. He always had a listening ear and an open heart.  A true leader. I am so very sorry to hear of his passing.  Some memories in particular that we shared from Guatemala on our Medical Readiness Exercise.  We all had a great time and lots of laughs.  


I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Rick. He was a devoted man who spent the better part of his life in dedication to his country. He will be missed.  My sincere condolences go to his family and friends including his caring wife, Patti. 

We shared your grief at this very sad and difficult time.  We know he'll be missed by everybody.  Patty - May you find the comfort and peace that you seek and may Rick rest in peace.  We love you.  We love Samba.  You two are a joy a have around!

A War Story... It was March 2001. We were on a bus at night driving from Skopje Macedonia to Camp Bondsteel Kosovo. MSG Zani was the Sr. NCO in charge as we entered hostile territory. As we crossed the border and were instructed to go from Weapons status green to amber, he went up and down the aisle with his flashlight to personally oversee each soldier load a magazine but not chamber a round. I had a 9mm and a M16. His careful attention to detail built everyone's confidence that we would be prepared and be safe. A consummate leader.  See you on the High Ground!

Richard was a kind gentle soul. I was glad to have known him. We were in the 399th together. I will keep his family in my thoughts and prayers. 

I served with Rich in the 399th. Always a kind and compassionate man. Rest easy my fellow Soldier. 

Patty, I am so sorry for your loss. Richard was a wonderful man. My prayers are with you.

I had the honor and privilege of serving with  Richard for many years in the 399th Combat Support Hospital. He was a gentleman and a superb Non Commissioned Officer. He was well respected  by his fellow Soldiers  and will be greatly missed by all of us!
