Robert W. Adams of Chatham, MA passed away on June 16, 2020, at the age of 92. Born in New York City on May 16, 1928, he was the son of Winfred A. and Priscilla Adams and brother of the late Nancy (Adams) Paden. Bob grew up in Peekskill, NY, graduated from St. Lawrence University, and subsequently served as an Army medic during the Korean War, earning the Bronze Service Star, Combat Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal.
Bob worked in property tax accounting for General Foods Corporation in White Plains, NY, then J.J. Newbury and ACF both in New York City. In 1975. He moved his family to Acton, MA to work for Honeywell Corporation in Waltham, and retired to Chatham in 1995.
Bob married Doris Horton, also from Peekskill, in 1954 and they proceeded to raise their four children there. Always civic minded, Bob was a volunteer firefighter for the Cortlandt Hook and Ladder Company and a member of the Peekskill Board of Education. He also found time to serve as a Cub Scout troop leader, Sunday School teacher and deacon at Peekskill Presbyterian Church. While in Acton, Bob nurtured his love of history by joining the Acton Minutemen and participating in their various activities, including the march to Concord every Patriot’s Day. He also served on the Board of Assessors for the town.
When he retired to Chatham, Bob was able to engage in his passions of sailing and kayaking. He was happiest when outdoors, and brought his children and grandchildren along on his camping, biking and hiking adventures. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Chatham, and in that capacity gave tours of Chatham Light as well as monitoring boating safety. He also used his knowledge of tax law to help prepare tax returns for senior citizens through the Chatham Council on Aging. Bob’s other interests included woodworking and playing bridge with friends.
Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Linda Hathaway and husband Jim of Montgomery, TX; grandsons Daniel and Brian Hathaway and their respective wives Gina and Brittany; great-grandson Hayden Hathaway; son Wayne Adams and his wife Paula of Port Charlotte, FL; daughter Sharon Adams-Lech of Fitchburg, MA; granddaughter Lani Grady and husband Joe; great-grandson Logan Grady; grandson Joseph Lech; son Robert H. Adams of Chatham; grandchildren Molly, Michael, and Abigail Adams; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr Adams, father of my dear friend Linda growing up in Peekskill, NY was such a wonderful father, husband, neighbor. He was so good to us kids - always had time to talk to us whenever he came home from work- tired or not. RIP Mr. Adams.
