

Born in Boston, MA, she was the daughter of the late James Vokey of Arlington, MA and Bertha Estelle (Trask) Vokey of Pocasset, MA. She was raised in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School, where she was a star athlete in girls’ field hockey, basketball and soft ball. After graduating she attended Fitchburg State University and received her bachelor’s degree in education. She began her career at Payson Park Elementary School in Belmont, MA, where she taught sixth grade. Following her years as a teacher, she then became director of the Reinhart Handwriting School in Waltham, MA. She taught thousands of children throughout her career the beautiful art of handwriting in Reinhart cursive.
She met her husband John (Red) McNamara at the Sandy Burr Country Club in Wayland, MA. Their love for each other and golf began at Sandy Burr and never stopped. After relocating to Pocasset, MA, she and Red joined the Pocasset Golf Club in the early 1970’s. She went on to complete locally and in the Woman’s State Golf League while still maintaining her “star athlete” title. She also enjoyed swimming, boating and running but she mostly loved her time spent raising her family. She made sure her children had the best of everything.
Besides her husband, Ruth is survived by her children, Keri Wenzel and her husband Bruce Wenzel of Buzzards Bay, Tami McNamara of Buzzards Bay and is predeceased by Tara McNamara of Pocasset; four grandchildren, Kala Wenzel and her fiancée Kenneth Schwabe of Brockton, Braylan Wenzel of Hartford, CT, Jamason Wenzel of Buzzards Bay and John Wenzel, also of Buzzards Bay; a great-grandson Jaxxon James Schwabe of Brockton.
A private memorial tribute was held in her honor on March 25, 2016.
