

Shirley Ruth (Rackham) McCarthy, Plymouth, MA Hackney, London, U.K. 2/19/32 - 4/22/2020. Left this world peacefully with her three sons by her side on Wednesday, April 22, 2020. Born in London, England a daughter of the late Ernest and Mabel (Chamberlin) Rackham.
At 88 years, a full life, the body relented in a natural way, as it should be. We as a family are grateful for so many years.
Born in a working class suburb of London.
Survived the bombings of Britain in 1942 and endured the horror of WWII from the young age of 8 - 12 years old.
Emigrated to the U.S. with her sister Edna in the mid 1950's.
Married and had 3 sons
Owned and operated multiple businesses along the way.
Being a child of war, she had first hand knowledge of the importance of the freedom to prosper and make her own way.
Her Passion was Real Estate Development. She built and sold multiple properties on the Cape.
Instilled the work ethic into her children.
When things didn't work out her Winston Churchhill spirit of "Never Surrender" Attitude took over.
She loved gardening, especially planting trees. She also loved animals and her family.
Affectionately known as Mimi to her multiple grandchildren.
After the birth of her children she spent everyday, for the rest of her life in protection and guidance of them.
She is survived by her sons, Geoffrey McCarthy and Kevin McCarthy both of Plymouth, MA and Stephen McCarthy and his wife Nichole of Bourne; siblings Geoffrey Rackham, Arthur Rackham, Margaret Forman all of England, Edna Eames of Canton, MA. Grandchildren, Geoffrey, Jennifer, Adam, Amanda, Stephen, Kelley, Sara, Patric, Skye, Haley & Ryan; Great-grandchildren, Arianna, Elyse, William, Alexis & Calvin.
A memorial gathering will be planned for a later date to be determined as the situation allows.
