Stephen James Amara

December 7, 1959 – October 25, 2022
Obituary of Stephen James Amara
IN THE CARE OF

Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home

Stephen James Amara, aged 62, of Centerville, MA passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at Cape Code Hospital.

Stephen was born in Boston, MA and raised in Hyde Park by his loving parents, James J. and Mary Ann Amara. He was a graduate of Don Bosco High School and, in 2014, received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Suffolk University. Stephen was an accomplished swimmer and musician in his youth. He was a gifted writer, a successful entrepreneur, and earned his commercial pilot’s license.

Stephen was a man of many talents and interests, and had an insatiable appetite for learning. While he was deeply respected for his professional talents and his intellect, he was even more beloved for his depth of character. His calm demeanor and wonderful sense of humor allowed him to build rapport with people from all walks of life, and he took advantage of every opportunity to teach, mentor, and counsel anyone who sought his help or friendship. He was extremely compassionate and sensitive to the needs of others, and will be remembered for the generosity and kindness he showed to his family, friends and colleagues.

Stephen’s absence will be most profoundly felt by his best friend and companion of 24 years, Yolanda Johnson. He and Yolanda were partners in everything, and married on September 9, 2021. Stephen was an amazing caretaker. He prioritized the needs of his aging mother, his wife, his children, and his grand-children with steadfast and unconditional love. He took pride in everything he did and everyone he held dear, but nothing moreso than his four children and 11 grandchildren.

Stephen was predeceased by his father, James J. Amara. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his mother, Mary Ann Amara, and his devoted wife, Yolanda Johnson. His four children Mary (Ian) Lunn of Mashpee, Samuel (Blair) Amara of Marstons Mills, Stephanie (Mathieu) Clifford of Taunton, and Stephen (Iryna) Amara, Jr. of Marstons Mills. His 11 grandchildren; Henry, Charlotte, Robert, Wesley and Theodore Lunn, Grant and Griffin Amara, George and Alexander Eliopoulos and Benjamin Clifford, and Vincent Amara. His siblings; Joseph (Maryann) Amara, Marie (Bruce) Buckley, Lorraine (Tim) Emmons, William Amara, Christine (Sean) Moroney, and James (Denise) Amara.
