Suzanne Frances Murphy, 83, of Medfield, Massachusetts, passed away on September 12, 2026. Born on July 9, 1943, in the Bronx, New York, Suzanne lived a life defined by family, compassion, and a lifelong commitment to caring for others.
Suzanne devoted much of her life to nursing, a profession that suited both her natural ability to care for others and her strength and determination. Over a career spanning nearly four decades, she cared for patients at every stage of life, from newborns and children to older adults. Her career included pediatric and geriatric nursing, surgical and obstetric care, nursing education, and clinical research. Nursing was more than Suzanne’s profession; caring for people was an enduring part of who she was.
Suzanne married Richard J. Murphy Jr. on October 4, 1969. Together, they shared nearly 57 years of marriage and built a life centered around their family.
Suzanne is survived by her husband, Richard; her daughter, Jane Gianino and her husband John of Medfield, Massachusetts; her son, Scott Murphy and his wife Liss of Dedham, Massachusetts; her three grandchildren, Devyn, Jack, and Owen; and her sister, Fran Martin of Millis, Massachusetts.
Suzanne will be remembered not only for her long career in nursing, but most importantly as a devoted wife, mother, sister, friend, and especially “Grammy,” a moniker she loved. She treasured her grandchildren, and the role she played in their lives. Suzanne was happiest surrounded by family and friends, especially at the Cape, where you could often find her in her favorite Chart Room sweatshirt or Dunkin’ vest, sharing stories and laughs with friends on the back deck. Those simple moments—family, friends, conversation, and time at the Cape—were some of the things she cherished most.
A visitation will be at 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. on Monday, September 21, at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home in Bourne, MA followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church in Pocasset, MA.
A luncheon will follow the Funeral Mass. Burial at 1:45 PM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery on Connery Avenue in Bourne.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Suzanne’s memory to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation.
