Born in Dorchester, MA and raised in Quincy, Ginny went on to work as a legal secretary, meet and marry her husband of 50 years, Jim Flynn, and raise a family of three boys who were the center of her life. Ginny and Jim lived in Wollaston and Milton, and spent summers in Pocasset, where they eventually retired in 1997. In later years Ginny drew great enjoyment from her eight grandchildren.
Ginny liked to cook, had a great sense of humor, and knew a million stories that she loved to tell. She enjoyed spending time in the sun, loved the beach, and was a well-intentioned – if possibly too chatty – bridge player. Ginny enjoyed entertaining, could knit you a hat in nothing flat, had many friends, and was always ready to welcome (and feed) her sons’ friends at the Cape. She was interested in all aspects of current events, a competitive Scrabble player, and was always ready to lend a hand to anyone who needed it.
Over the years Ginny was active in the St. Agatha Parish Guild, Milton Women's Club, St. John the Evangelist Women’s Guild, The JFK Library, Falmouth Hospital Volunteers, Aptucxet Trading Post Museum, and the Bourne Garden Club. She had a strong work ethic and held a series of jobs before and after raising her sons at Gillette, Ropes and Gray, and the Stop & Shop Supermarket Company, among others.
Ginny was predeceased by her husband Jim; her best friend and sister, Roma Vangel, and her husband Louis; and her brother Walter Byrne and his wife Barbara. She is survived by her brother Jerry and his wife Jan; three sons and their wives – Jim Flynn and Claudia Mosher (of Bourne, MA), Rick and Andrea Flynn (of Scituate, MA), and Rob and Sally Flynn (of Washington, DC). She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Andrew of Boston, MA; Kate of San Francisco, CA; Patrick and his wife, Bridget, of Cohasset, MA; Keegan of London, UK; George and Hannah, of Washington, DC; and Zach and Charlie, of Brooklyn, NY. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews whom she loved, and two great grandchildren PJ and Nora, about whose arrivals she was delighted!
The family would like to thank the entire community at Keystone Place for making Ginny such a welcomed member of their community and for their great care, as well as the dedicated team of caregivers at Beacon Hospice Care, who were indispensable over the past several months.
A mass of Christian burial will take place at St. John the Evangelist Church in Pocasset, MA on Tuesday, August 8th, at 10:00am. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the cause of your choice, the Fanconi Anemia Research Fund (360 E 10th Ave #201, Eugene, OR 97401), or the St. John the Evangelist Parish College Scholarship Fund in Pocasset, MA.
