

He was born September 9, 1935 in Manhattan, New York, the son of the late Edgar and Hattie (Taylor) Hewlett. He attended and graduated at Gompus in the Bronx, NY in 1952.
On January 17, 1959, he was united in marriage to Rose M. Daniel in the Bronx, NY. To this union three children were born, Woody, Johnny, and Jerome.
Wilburn served his country in the United States Air Force, being discharged as Master Sargent in December 1973. He and his family moved to Pocasset from Loring A.F.B. in Maine in 1974. He was known as the “Prankster” on the base. He was a diehard Yankees fan, played golf, dabbled in lobstering, but especially enjoyed catering clambakes and cookouts, even an occasional wedding.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and siblings; Edgar Hewlett, Edward “Poody” Hewlett, and Lois Jervis.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Rose, and children; Woody Hewlett of Orlando, FL, Johnny Hewlett and his wife Arelis of New York City, and Jerome Hewlett and his wife Leslie of Issaquah, WA. One brother Ernest Hewlett of New York City, and one granddaughter Justice Hewlett.
Friends may share respects with the family at a visitation Tuesday, March 31, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne, MA 02532.
A funeral mass will be said on Wednesday, April 1, at 11:00 AM, at St. John’s the Evangelist Parish, 841 Shore Rd. in Pocasset. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
Wilburn’s family suggest memorials be made in his name to the Wounded Warrior’s Project, 150 Cambridge Park Drive, Suite 202, Cambridge, MA 02140.
