William Wesley Locke, loving father and grandfather, passed away on the 2nd of November 2023, in Cataumet, MA. He was 88 years old. William was a man of honesty and friendship, devoted to his family, his community and to the conservation of nature.
William was raised in Wellesley, MA and spent many happy summers on the shores of Buzzards Bay.
He maintained lifelong friendships from his childhood in Wellesley, Middlesex School, and from Middlebury College, where he met the love of his life and wife of 65 years, Noelle Caseley.
William served in the United States Army after college and then joined the Armstrong Cork Company as a sales representative. He had a long and successful career with Armstrong, rising to the position of senior executive responsible for Armstrong’s international operations. William led the company’s expansion in Europe, India, China, and Japan; a strategy built around his focus on quality. He and his family lived in various locations across America and abroad, settling in Lancaster, PA where he and Noelle made cherished friendships. William served on the Lancaster Council Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America and with Noelle supported community organizations including Planned Parenthood and the Heart Association.
Upon retirement, William moved back to his childhood home on Scraggy Neck in Cataumet, MA. There he became active in the community and local government, working to restore and protect the natural health of Buzzards Bay. William was a long-time supporter of the Bourne Conservation Trust and for many years on the Leadership Council of the Buzzards Bay Coalition, an organization set up in the 1980s to Save the Bay. He understood and helped to communicate the need to protect our environment and saw the Bay’s conservation as his legacy.
William is survived by his family; his children, Clayton and Elizabeth Locke, Deborah Locke, Steven and Gail Locke, and Jennifer and Matt Davitt; and his grandchildren, William Locke, Sara Locke, Colin Davitt, and Thomas Davitt. He leaves behind many dear friends from his many walks in life. He will be sadly missed.
