Alfred Sylvester Braxton also known as “Tinkey” or “Brac” too many of his family and friends was born on January 8th, 1930 in Muirkirk, Maryland to the late Sarah and Cleveland Braxton. On Sunday, March 21st, he took his last breath after a long and often frustrating battle with complications from diabetes.
Brac graduated from Phelps High School where he nurtured his love for all things Baseball. He would go on to play ball at North Carolina A & T and enjoyed success at the semi-professional level as well. Brac would eventually marry Frankie Scott but they later divorced.
After a short time in the United States Army, Brac began working at the Pentagon in a civilian capacity before venturing into the private sector. Brac loved working with his hands and spent time working on restoring furniture belonging to his mother, customizing the spiral staircase in his home and other crafting endeavors. Brac was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also was an active participant in horseracing as an owner of “Vagas Top” in the late 70’s and early 80’s.
Brac was known for living his life his way. He conformed to no one’s rules and rarely asked for help from others unless he really needed it. He loved his family fiercely especially his nieces and nephews.
Brac leaves behind a daughter, Vickie Braxton husband William Melby, a granddaughter, Alexandra, and his grandchildren “Bubba” and partner Kayla. His relationship with his family could sometimes be complicated, but he loved them fiercely and they were all there with him as he entered his final stages in life.
Although all his siblings—Lee, Bobby, Sonny, Emma, Dumpy, Edie, Ginny, Mil, Lessie, and Curtie—preceded him in death he leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews and some good friends to mourn him.
