Barbara was born May 14, 1958, in Richmond, Virginia, to Mabel Lavern and Eddie Gallimore. Growing up, she loved to travel and explore the country. At the age of 19, Barbara decided to join the Navy on June 3, 1977. Unfortunately, due to her health, she was relieved of her duties and was no longer able to serve. She was always proud to say she served and would often say, “At least I tried!” That was her spirit. She was a fighter. When she set her mind on something, there was no stopping her.
She went on to become an exercise and yoga instructor, a cosmetologist, passed the Maryland real estate exams, and finally worked as an accounting assistant. Barbara was also very talented and enjoyed many hobbies. She was an artist, painter, singer, dancer, gardener, pool league champion, and caretaker to her beloved pets. Most of all, she loved being with her family. Barbara and Tim met in 1997 and were instantly inseparable. He was her “Sweetheart,” and she was his “Dear.” Together, they watched their family grow and were blessed with many grandchildren. They traveled across America throughout the years, finally retiring to Florida.
Lastly, Barbara had a great sense of humor and was very outspoken, honest, and without judgment. She was an open door, a shoulder to lean on, and accepted everyone unconditionally. May she remind us all that imperfection is beautiful, forgiveness is self-love, and laughter is the best medicine.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Timothy; daughter, Grace (Paul); grandchildren, Dakota, Matthew, Sophia, Elizabeth, and Madelyn; and sisters, Esther (Tony) and Patricia.
