The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 29th, from 4 – 6 pm at Good Samaritan Lutheran Church, 10110 Greenbelt Rd, Lanham, MD.
A memorial service will be held the following day, September 30th, at 11:30 am in the Chapel on the campus of Riderwood Retirement Community, 3110 Gracefield Road, Silver Spring, MD, followed by a luncheon reception celebrating her life. If you desire to make a floral donation, please include "Chapel/Betty Carlson."
Betty was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and raised in Madelia, MN. She received her nursing degree from Lutheran Deaconess School of Nursing in 1946 and her Bachelor of Science from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1947 after which she worked as both a registered nurse and a nursing instructor.
A talented musician with a lovely soprano voice, she played cornet as a young woman and sang throughout her life in various school ensembles, church choirs and with the New Dimensions singers, the Bowie Sounds of Music and, following retirement to Riderwood, the Grace Notes.
In addition to her love of music, she enjoyed collecting antiques, sewing, and doing needlework.
She is predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Donald J. Carlson and survived by her sister, Marlys Meyer, of Blue Earth, MN, daughter, Mary E. Carlson of Lanham, MD, son, Jeffrey D. Carlson, of Upper Marlboro, MD, daughter and son-in-law, Patricia A. Tinder and W. Michael Tinder, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
