Our beloved father, Arthur William Egan, Jr., also known as Bill, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at INOVA Alexandria Hospital at the age of 76, following a major stroke on October 7.
Bill was born on June 6, 1949, in Bay Shore, New York, to Arthur William Egan, Sr. and Beatrice Jayne Egan. He graduated from Patchogue High School in 1967, then went on to attend Syracuse University, where he joined the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and met the love of his life, Nancy Beth Eisenberg. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Syracuse before proudly serving four years in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Captain.
After his service, Bill continued his education at the University of Missouri, where he received his Master’s in Business administration in May 1976. That same year, on August 28, 1976, Bill and Nancy were married, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love, laughter, and adventure.
Bill and Nancy began their married life and moved to Michigan, where they welcomed their daughters, Brittany and Courtney. In January 1987, they settled in Bowie, Maryland, where Nancy still resides today. Over the years, Bill built a successful career in project management, working on major traffic systems across Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, New Jersey, New York, and Durham, North Carolina. He retired from the City of Durham in 2017.
In retirement, Bill enjoyed traveling with Nancy and their beloved dogs between their three homes in Bowie, Maryland; Durham, and Boiling Spring Lakes, North Carolina. Bill had such a big heart—especially for animals. He leaves behind his two wonderful pups, Cody and Wyatt, who both came from the animal shelter and brought him endless joy.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Saturday, November 15th at 2:00 p.m. Friends and family will gather first at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, where his urn will be placed, followed by a gathering at Robert E. Evans Funeral Home from 3-5 p.m. to share memories and honor the wonderful man he was.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the ASPCA in Bill’s honor:
