Ruth Elizabeth “Bonnie” Holland (nee Kelly) went to be with her Lord on February 28, 2022. She was 78 years old. Bonnie was born to William Henry Kelly and Grace Elizabeth Kelly (nee Ruth), June 2, 1943, in Baltimore, Maryland. Born to a British father during WW II, she became affectionately known as “the bonnie bundle from Britain”, hence the nickname, “Bonnie”. After graduating from Catonsville High School, where she served with the Civil Air Patrol, she attended The Maryland Institute College of Art to receive a BFA degree in Interior Design in 1965.
Bonnie worked briefly before she met and married Michael Harris Holland in 1968, followed immediately by a move overseas, their first of many moves due to his military service. Upon Mr. Holland’s retirement from the US Army Special Forces, they returned to the United States. The Holland’s made their home in Chestertown, Maryland for the next 23 years where Bonnie resumed her career under the name of Bonnie K Interiors. She fully enjoyed her interior design career, styling the homes of many on the Eastern Shore. Soon after the death of her husband in 1995, she retired and relocated to Crofton, Maryland to be near family.
In her retirement, she happily served her children and grandchildren. They were the light of her life. She also spent her time volunteering at her church and supporting her church community. God graciously supplied a sweet fellowship of believers at Capital Hill Baptist Church, as well as its sister church, Cheverly Baptist Church. Bonnie enjoyed gardening, sewing, and traveling, and the rich friendship of many. She was an active member of the Chesapeake Treasures Smocking Guild where she spent many a day heirloom sewing with her dear friends.
Bonnie found all her worth in Christ, her Lord, and delighted in His service all her days. Her greatest desire was to have her children, grandchildren, and generations to come walking with her God until His return.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. She is survived by her children, Jennifer Hancock (Scott Hancock), Lorraine Holland Fortlage (Kurt Fortlage), and her step-daughter, Deborah Suzanne Cadden, (Kevin Cadden), as well as 5 grandchildren, Ryan Hancock, Elizabeth Hancock, Mason Michael Fortlage, Braden Garrett Fortlage, and Avery Caroline Fortlage. She is also survived by her brother, William Kelly and his wife, Glenda Kelly of Chestertown, Maryland, as well as a half-sister, Florence Raynor and her husband Colin Raynor of Adelaide, Australia. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 11, 2022 at Grace Baptist Church, 7210 Race Track Road in Bowie, Maryland. Visiting hours will be from 10:00am-11:30am. The funeral service will begin at 11:30am and burial will immediately follow at the Crownsville Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road in Crownsville, Maryland. Flowers may be sent to Grace Baptist Church to arrive on March 11, 2022.
