Catherine ‘Kay’ Power passed away peacefully on June 18, 2021, six days shy of her 94th birthday. She had a stroke earlier in the week.
Kay remained sharp as a tack and fun-loving all her days. She was the reigning matriarch of the family from the Greatest Generation dedicated to the caring for her six children, cherishing her five grandchildren, and managing her Bowie home which was her work of art that she lovingly tended and made happy when friends and family walked through her door.
Kay is survived by daughters: Kathy and her husband Tony, Pat, Kelly and her husband Chris; sons: Barry, Danny and his wife Michelle, and Brian and his wife Doretta; and her brother Freddy. Also by her beloved grandchildren Leah, Jordan, Julia, Jake and Wade, and her step-grandchildren Christopher, Jessica, Cristina, and Matt. Kay enjoyed being a Bostonian Irish Catholic. Her parents Mary Savage Doherty and John Kennedy were born in Ireland, met in this country, and settled in Boston. Kay was the sixth of their nine children. She loved her first nuclear family. All are in heaven except her youngest brother. She had 26 nieces and nephews.
Burial service will be held at the Sacred Heart Chapel at 16501 Annapolis Rd, Bowie on Saturday, July 10 at 1 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to post-pandemic restaurants, treat yourselves to crab cakes and enjoy having known Kay.
