Born in Baltimore Maryland, Ed, (his nick name), was 78 when he passed on Thursday, September 4, 2025.
Ed was a graduate of Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical High School #410 in Baltimore Maryland in June of 1965, trained in auto-mechanics. He worked as a Mechanic for many years then became a Truck Driver for Montgomery Wards, Coke-A-Cola, and Millenium Printing before retiring. Ed loved to joke around making people laugh and he loved his dancing. His presence always brought a smile to your face.
You might say Ed was an average guy from “Ballmore” being a big fan of the Baltimore Orioles Baseball team, Ravens Football Team, and watching Murder She Wrote, Perry Mason and John Wayne movies. Ed was a member of American Legion Disney Bell Post #66 for 26 years and attended Cornerstone Church in Bowie Maryland for many years. He was a true Christian always studying the words of Christ in his later years of life and preaching to his sister Irene.
Ed married Pamela soon after high school on February 18, 1966, and was gifted by having three wonderful children, Rene Maygers, husband Scott, Charles Edward Sauers Jr., Dawn Kus, husband Brian. Ed and Pamela divorced some years later.
Ed married Frances McKenna on October 19, 2012, and they enjoyed thirteen wonderful years together. He lovingly joined the family with Frances’s children, daughter Janet Lukasik with husband Michael, and son, Joseph McKenna with wife Kaylyn, and two sister in-laws June Kramer, daughter – Cindy Kwitowski-husband George, two children Nathan and Sarah. Jonathan Kramer – wife- Jennifer – two children – Skyla and Conrad. Sharon Farms -husband- Alan. Two brother in-laws -Paul Fowler – wife- Donna, and five sons – TJ Martin, Cole, Brett, Jackson, and Wyatt Fowler. Steven Fowler (deceased) had three children – Stephany Funkhousers – Dakota and Tyler Fowler.
Ed had to endure what every parent fears the most, the death of a child, his son Eddie… but Ed managed through by keeping Jr’s memory alive. Ed was the kind of brother a sister could always count on no matter what! Ed was also gifted with eight beautiful grandchildren. Kristen Janiski - husband Christopher, Olivia Kus – partner Daren Porter, Benjamin Kus – wife Sarah, Rachel Maygers, Noah Sauers, Austin Martin, Autumn Martin and Walker McKenna.
Ed was gifted with five great grandchildren. Miles Janiski, Leighlen Alford, Trentin Martin, Rylee Martin, Addison Martin, and one un-born great granddaughter, Emma Kus, expected January 2026.
God Bless the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren for bringing love to Ed’s life.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents Alice May Sauers and Edward Bushmiller, Step-father-Walter Rayner, his son Charles Edward Sauers Jr. and brother in-laws- William G. Schneider and Steven Flower.

A memorial gathering will take place on Friday September 19, 2025, from 5-7 PM, with a time to share memories at 7PM at the Robert F. Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Road, Bowie Maryland 20715
