Cynthia “Cynt” Marie Pittman was born October 20, 1939 in Washington, D.C. to the late Odell Ansley and Mildred McCullough Ansley. As a child, Cynthia lived in Los Angeles, California and Springfield, Massachusetts with her family, where she graduated from the High School of Commerce in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1957. After receiving her diploma, Cynthia returned to Washington, D.C. where she was then united in holy matrimony to James A. Pittman in 1958.
Cynthia and her family later made their home in Silver Spring, Maryland where she continued in her educational and professional career all while raising her three beloved children. Cynthia received her Associates Degree from the Business School of Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland upon which she began her career working as an assistant Kindergarten Teacher at Rosemary Hills Elementary school in Silver Spring, Maryland. For the next 25 years, Cynthia worked within the federal government at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and The Department of Interior. Cynthia also took pride in serving her community as a devout member of The Order of Eastern Star, and having volunteered as an Assistant Director for the Black Caucus directed by the late Shirley Chisholm, the first black female elected to Congress.
Yet, no matter the position or title held, nothing meant more to her than her role as Mother and “Nana.” Cynthia’s favorite pastime was to be with her family, and she made sure to show her love in any way that she could. Whether it be traveling across country to spend time with her children and grandchildren, talking on the phone with her sister Jean, giving everyone the latest from CNN, drinking her black coffee with her marathon of cowboy westerns or a simple Sunday afternoon, watching her beloved Redskins and a chilly one nearby.
Cynthia leaves to cherish her memories - daughter Rondale Graham (Dwight), of Mary Esther, Florida, son Kenneth Troy Pittman Sr., (Ronnette), of San Antonio, Texas, daughter Felicia Thompson, (Steve), of Bowie, Maryland, step-son James (Teko) Cromartie, Fayetteville, Pennsylvania; one sister Sylvia Jean Swann (the late Pete) of Suitland, Maryland; ex-spouse James A. Pittman of Lanham, Maryland; three grandsons, Gary McLaurin, Aaron Alexander, Kenneth Troy Pittman II, (Erica); five granddaughters, Ariell Graham, Courtney Simpson (Marlon), Jazmine Pittman, Camrey Thompson, Caterra Thompson; five great grandsons, Malikye Graham, Quinton Brown, Kenneth Troy Pittman III, Pheonix Brown, Landyn Hill one great granddaughter Laila Hill; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
Cynthia has returned home, where she will join her parents Odell and Mildred, along with her sister Elrock Ansley, all of whom have preceded her in transition to eternal peace.
