Cindy was born in Washington, DC on February 14, 1957 to Paul George Dunay and Livia DiLucente Dunay. She graduated from High Point High School in 1975. She married her high school sweetheart on Saint Patrick’s Day in 1979 - not because either of them were Irish, but because it fell during her Spring Break from college. She graduated with a degree in Special Education and went on to work for The Christ Child Institute in Rockville, a job she loved so dearly that she invited her students to her wedding. She was always very dedicated to her education and her work. She spent the majority of her career working for NASA for 38 years, and those years gave her some of the best friendships of her life.
Cindy had the biggest and brightest smile in any room. Her laugh was contagious, and you could always count on her for a good joke or a sarcastic comment. She loved gardening, spending time with her family and friends (many of whom she still had from grade school), and she was always extremely dedicated to her job. But, the greatest joy of her life was spending time with her five grandchildren. Whether it be having them over for sleepovers, taking trips to Dunkin’ Donuts, playing games in the Outer Banks, making them her famous chocolate pie, or cheering them on at their ball games, talent shows, or dance recitals, she was always their biggest and loudest cheerleader. There was nothing she loved more than being their MeeMaw.
Cindy was preceded in death by both of her parents as well as her husband of 38 years, Dan Stoltz. She is survived by her daughters Cathy Smith (Carl) and Laura McGill (James), and her five grandchildren: Jackson, Michael, Connor, Harper, and Brody. She is also survived by her sister Donna Jordan (Bill), brother Kevin Dunay (Gillian), and brother-in-law Billy Stoltz (Terry), as well as her nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
A celebration of life will be held from 1:00-3:00pm on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at Robert E. Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Road in Bowie, Maryland. The burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Cindy Stoltz to Hospice of the Chesapeake, whose compassionate care and support meant so much to our family.
