Stevensville – Dale Thomas Jones Sr. died peacefully on October 18, 2012 at the Baltimore Washington Hospital. He was 85 years old. Dale was born on April 17, 1927 in Baltimore, Maryland. After service in the United States Navy, he settled in Severna Park, MD. He specialized in construction, building bowling alley lanes with Frank E. Daley Bowling Lanes for 25 years before relocating to Stuart, Florida in 1972. As a Superintendent for Whiting and Turner, one of his greatest accomplishments was the responsibility for construction and opening of City Place, a massive 72- acre open air complex in West Palm Beach, FL. Dale was affectionately known as Captain Dale due to his passion for the sea and love of diving and fishing. His greatest joy was his boat the “Restless Wind”. Dale had a yellow pet canary that lived on his boat and traveled with him. He spent many hours taking fishing parties and family trips and frequented the Bimini Islands and the Bahamas.
Dale was preceded in death by his life partner of 35 years, Rose Ingram; his mother, Helen Jones; two brothers, Morris and Arthur Jones; a sister, Helen Jones; a grandson, Jeffery Lewis, and a great grandson Matthew Jones. He is survived by his four children, Bonnie Coleman of Stevensville, Dale "Tom" Jones, Jr., of Chester, Nancy Gardner of Stevensville, and Jeannie Willis of Chester and their families. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Dorothy M. Jones of Frederick, MD; eight grandchildren, Lieutenant Commander Lynda LeCrone, USCG, Richard Jones, Kim West, Gerald Lewis, Joey Lewis, Jessica Lewis, Tonya Lewis, and Amberlee Gwaltney and their families; 17 great-grandchildren, and an extended number of nephews, nieces, cousins, and loving friends.
Dale relocated back to the Eastern Shore of MD in 2006 to be near his children. He loved fishing on the Chesapeake Bay and enjoyed eating crabs and oysters. Dale was an active member of the Elks Lodge, American Legion, Fraternal Order of Police and the Moose Lodge where he enjoyed staying active and socializing with his friends. Dale was known for living a fulfilled life, and spent the past six years having fun with his special friend, Virginia Mae Perry. He loved a good drink, laughter and could tell plenty of great jokes. He always had a smile on his face and a helping hand to lend.
The “Restless Wind” has her Captain back…Captain Dale, may the seas be calm and the wind at your back. A memorial service will be held at the Bay Country Moose Lodge, 6154 Main St., Queenstown, MD on November 17, 2012 where friends may join in a celebration of his life at noon. Lunch will be served immediately following.
