Mrs. Henderson was born in Hyattsville, the youngest of five children of Ralph and Helen Dudrow. Her father owned Dudrow’s Drug Store, a fixture in Hyattsville from 1924 until it closed in 1952. Mrs. Henderson worked at the store both before and after her 1947 marriage to Earl Henderson. They moved to the Highbridge section of Bowie in 1952.
Mr. Henderson opened J.E. Henderson Plumbing and Heating in 1957, and the business became a well-known name around Bowie for four decades. Mrs. Henderson handled the office work for the business while also working with the PTA at Bowie Elementary and High Bridge Elementary schools.
After her 1976 divorce, Mrs. Henderson sold Shaklee natural products and operated a lunch wagon at construction sites. She later returned to Hyattsville and worked at the University of Maryland Physical Plant, dispatching maintenance and repair workers around campus. She moved back to Bowie after retiring from the university in 1999.
She is survived by her three sons: Craig of Bowie; Steve of Pasadena, Md.; and Scott of Paxinos, Pa.
A memorial service will be held at Mrs. Henderson’s home on Saturday, Aug. 8 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The address is 4107 Woodhaven Lane. We hope to see all her friends there.
