Earl Ernest Liverpool

July 16, 1937October 26, 2020

Earl E. Liverpool was born July 16, 1937 to the late Ernest & Louise Liverpool. He departed this life and went home to glory on Monday, October 26, 2020, at his residence.

Earl was a native Washingtonian. He was baptized at an early age and attended D.C. Public Schools where he graduated from Armstrong High School.

He married his childhood sweetheart Ruth Dyke on April 19, 1958 and was still married until the day he departed this earth. From this union, they were blessed with six children.

Earl was a kind-hearted person. He worked tirelessly as a Supervisor at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing where he retired. He also worked in the evenings for the D.C. Department of Recreation at local D.C. Recreation Centers and coached sports. He was a local Head Football Official for Semi-Professional leagues and many athletic leagues throughout the area. He was a Head Basketball Official for IAABO, where he officiated some college, high school, D.C. recreational leagues, CYO, etc. His unknown passion in his earlier days were racing pigeons. He played football, baseball, and basketball himself. He wore the No. 22. From his love of sports, he taught baseball and basketball at the recreation center to neighborhood youth. Earl was a die hearted football fan of the Washington Redskins. He loved his home team! He looked at all sports on television. No matter what the sport was. His other favorite past time was walking. He walked everywhere. If the walk was too far away, he rode public transportation. He always said he did not need a car because he lived in D.C. Eventually he got his car and loved it (a Ford Grenada)!!! By the way, his only car. He was loved and respected by all. He even pierced his three daughter’s ears and the neighbor’s daughters ears as well. He also enjoyed cooking. He was an excellent cook. He did it all!!!!! He leaves to forever cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of over 62 years Ruth Liverpool and six children - Earl Liverpool-deceased (Florida); Darlene Herald (Moe-deceased); Jeffrey Liverpool (Charise); Karen Burroughs (Wayne); Darrell Liverpool, Sr. (Priscilla); Michele Romeo (Norman); and he also raised his grandson Sean Liverpool. He also took in Marilyn Proctor (a cousin) for a short period of time alongside his six children. He had fifteen grandchildren: Earl Jr.; George; Angela; Andrea; Sean; William; Moses Lee III; Lamika; Duval; Shakari; Karin; Darrell, Jr.; Janisha; Jeniyah; and Charise; twenty-six great grandchildren; two sisters - Yvonne Smith and Anita Grooms (deceased); four brothers – Gregory Liverpool; Donald Liverpool; Carl Liverpool and Michael Liverpool; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Grandpa Liverpool,
You were such a gentle caring soul. No matter how tough life got at moments, you still managed to tell us, "Y'all will be alright." You were right! Things always worked out. Many times because you offered to pitch in and help or you had a solution. I miss seeing you watch your little TV in the kitchen, I miss those good o'l potatoes you used to make for me and the boys, or how you would take the kids into the yard to play for a while. Anyone that I met, who knew you, always said positive things about you! Thanks for being such a positive role model and for having such a huge impact on so many. Although, you've created a few sports brats that I have to deal with, I don't mind!

To the Liverpool family,
I'm wishing you peace to bring you comfort, courage to face the days ahead, and loving memories to forever hold in your heart.

Love, Leilani, Sean Jr., Chase, and Vince

Grandpa, you will never know how much you meant to me now, and forever. To me, you was not my grandfather, you was my father. You taught me so many things in life an supported me in so many ways. From buying me a ticket to see WCW Starcade at the MCI Center on a school night, to eating peanuts at RFK Stadium while watching the orioles games and the Skins vs Cowboys. Your memory will never be forgotten and I will make sure your legacy lives on within me. I love you now and forever grandpa.

Mr. Liverpool had such a quiet spirit and a extremely kind heart. Upon meeting him, his smile was so genuine, a smile you can never forget, a smile that welcomed you. From my best friend, Darlene, told the most exciting and loving stories of her father, the kind of father that is cherished. Mr. Liverpool was truly a great husband and father, the kind of Father other fathers could learn so much from. Mr. Liverpool stepped up to the plate to care for his family which was truly a hard job with six children and a wife and helping family members not to mention the other neighborhood and athletic team members he wrapped with his love and guidance
Mr. Liverpool is a HERO and will always have sweet good memories in all of the hearts that crossed his path.
