Edna Dudley Franklin

Edna Dudley Davis Franklin, a native of Montgomery Alabama, was born January 31, 1931, to Waldo and Annie Gladys Dudley in Birmingham, AL. She confessed Christ at an early age at St. Mary’s A.M.E. Zion Church, Acipco, Birmingham, AL.

She attended Birmingham public schools and graduated from A. H. Parker High School in May 1948. She had 2 years of Practical Nurse Training at Highland General Hospital.

In 1950, she met John W. Davis, Jr. whom she married September 25, 1950. To this union a daughter, Angela Denise was born in 1953.

Edna entered Alabama State University in June 1951 and graduated May of 1955. Edna and Mary Bullard, two pioneer teachers, integrated Bear Elementary School in September 1968, where she taught until ill health overtook her in January 1980. She taught Math, Science, Social Studies, Health and Handwriting.

Edna and Willie Ben Franklin, Sr. were married in March 1973 and she joined Hilliard Chapel Church and served faithfully until 2000, when she joined First C.M.E. Church. During her membership at First C.M.E. Church she was a member of the Missionary Society, the Sunday School Secretary and the Steward Board. In 2013 she relocated to Bowie, MD to live with her daughter and son-in-law.

Edna was predeceased by her parents and husband. She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter Angela Denise (Alfred) Clark. Grandchildren Christopher M. Cark, Nicole R. (Jessa) Miller and Yvette M. Clark. Great Grandchildren Da’ Vonte Elliott, Ja’ Len Elliott, Christina Wiley-Clark (Waldorf MD), Dalena Clark (Winchester, VA), Hayden Miller, Harper Miller, Avery Miller and Ariel Miller (San Diego, CA), and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held December 19, 2022, at Robert E. Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD 20715, (301) 464-8836 (P) (301) 464-3631 (F)

Internment will follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, 900 West Central Ave., Davidsonville, MD 21035, (410) 269-0514
