Gary was preceded in death by his parents John and Gladys Wist and his sister Joy Thorpe. He is survived by his siblings Vivian Hall (Lee), Denise Wist (Stan), brother-in-law Steve Thorpe, Beverly Tedder (Joal), and Royce Wist (Catina) as well as his step sister, Sylvia Mattison. Gary is also survived by ten nieces and nephews, April, Jackie, Matt, Amber, John, Shannon, Janice, Amy, Christina, and Stephen.
Gary graduated from Bowie High School in 1969. He received an Associate’s Degree in Computer Technology from Prince George’s Community College in 1972. Gary was also a volunteer fireman for the Bowie Fire Department. He worked at various banks and for contractors of the government in positions ranging from Computer Operator, Supervisor, Applications Programmer, Sr. Program Analyst, and Lead Systems Programmer/AVP.
Gary enjoyed boating, motorcycle riding and snow skiing.
A visitation for Gary will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Robert E. Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Rd, Bowie, Maryland 20715.

Gary will be laid to rest following his graveside service at St. Stephens Episcopal Church Cemetery, 1110 St. Stephen's Church Road, Crownsville, MD 21032 on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 1:45 PM
