Gladys Marion Gammie, 80, passed away on October 23, 2026. Born on September 9, 1946, in New Rochelle, New York, Gladys lived a full life marked by family, friendships, hard work, and a personality that was unmistakably her own.
The daughter of Walter William Amolsch and Marion H. McGonigal, Gladys grew up traveling with her family during her father’s service in the United States Air Force. Their travels took them to many places, including Japan, giving her early experiences beyond her birthplace.
Gladys spent much of her adult life in Tucson, Arizona, where she built a life and career while raising her family. A dedicated working mother, she worked as a bookkeeper for property management companies and senior living communities.
In February 1984, Gladys married Charles Michael Gammie, known to those who loved him as C. Michael. They married in Las Vegas, Nevada, and shared 37 years together, enjoying a happy life enriched by family, friendships, and time spent with the people closest to them. Michael preceded her in death in June 2021.
Following Michael’s passing, Gladys moved to Glendale, Maryland, in the fall of 2021 to be closer to her son and his family. The move allowed her to enjoy an especially meaningful chapter of her life, sharing Sunday dinners, holidays, and family milestones with those she loved. She enjoyed attending her grandson Brennan’s hockey games and celebrating special occasions, including her grandson Hayden’s high school graduation. Time spent with her grandsons and extended family, the Zakours, brought her great happiness.
Gladys was genuinely kindhearted and cared deeply about other people. She also had a strong spirit and a quick temper, a combination that those who knew her well would readily recognize. With her German and Irish heritage, she had a fiery streak and was never one to hide how she felt. Her straightforward nature and strength of character were unmistakable parts of who she was.
Outside of work and family, Gladys enjoyed both playing and watching golf, as well as watching classic movies. She also had a lifelong love of cats and all things cat-related. Her last cat, Nissa, held a particularly special place in her heart. Her affection for cats remained one of her most cherished interests.
Gladys is survived by her son, Bill; her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth; and her beloved grandsons, Hayden and Brennan. She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Michael Gammie, and her sister, Pam.
Gladys was cremated on October 30, 2026. No memorial service is planned.
In recognition of Gladys’s lifelong love of cats, the family invites those wishing to honor her memory to consider a memorial donation to the Hermitage Cat Shelter, a no-kill cat shelter. Donations may be made online at https://www.hermitagecatshelter.org/donate/.
Gladys will be remembered for her kindness, her spirited personality, her love of family, and the many memories she created with those fortunate enough to share in her life.
