Helen married her childhood sweetheart, Donald K. Greene on August 15, 1953, in Atlanta, Georgia. From this union two sons were born, Derrick and Darryl. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, friend and godmother who loved traveling, reading and crossword puzzles.
Helen, a native of Atlanta, Georgia graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. She attended Spelman College and graduated from Blayton School of Accounting in 1956. She later moved to Washington, DC with Donald, Derrick and Darryl. She was employed at Blackwell Business College from 1960 to 1984, retiring briefly in 1985. She resumed her career with Prince George's Board of Education until retirement in 1997. She volunteered as a mentor with Prince George's Public Schools, a member of the Sodality and Renew Pray Group with her church Holy Family. Helen was also a member of the Thousand Aces Pinochle Club for more than twenty-five years and served as a member of the Prince George's County Retirement Association.
Helen was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church for many years.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons Derrick (Kathryn) and Darryl; two granddaughters, Dziko and Dejah Greene, one brother Forest Townsend, Jr. and one sister, Ayesha (Uhurah) Jackson, four nieces, two nephews, and a host of grand nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Donald K. Greene.
A visitation for Helen will be held Wednesday, January 26, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Robert E. Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD 20715. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, January 26, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 16000 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD 20715. A graveside service will occur Wednesday, January 26, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Maryland National Memorial, 13300 Baltimore Ave, Laurel, MD 20707. A reception will occur Wednesday, January 26, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, 16000 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD 20715.
