May 9, 1951 – October 4, 2026
Ileana “Ily” Reyes Huseman, 75, of Bowie, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 4, 2026.
Ily was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend whose warmth, strength and vibrant personality touched the lives of those who knew her. Proud of her Puerto Rican heritage, she had a wonderful sense of humor, a strong spirit and a personality that was truly her own. She was never afraid to speak her mind, and she had a special way of making even ordinary moments memorable.
Above all, Ily loved her family. She treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren and enjoyed creating memories with those closest to her. She had a lifelong love of shopping and could happily spend hours browsing her favorite stores, especially when accompanied by someone she loved. Ily also had a special place in her heart for English Bulldogs and was a passionate advocate for bulldog rescue, once traveling all the way to Miami in a single weekend to rescue a dog in need. Whether enjoying a family gathering, sharing a laugh or simply spending time together, Ily found joy in life's everyday moments.
Ily enjoyed a long and fulfilling career in healthcare, serving as a Director of Food and Nutrition Services at several hospitals throughout the region. She spent the majority of her career with Morrison Healthcare, working at National Hospital for Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation in Arlington, Virginia; Children's National Hospital and MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.; and MedStar Harbor Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. She left Morrison Healthcare to join Southern Maryland Hospital Center, now MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center, where she spent the remaining 15 years of her career.
Ily is survived by her beloved husband, Col. Angel Daniel “Danny” Ortiz, Sr., USAF (Ret.); her daughter, Cheryl Richardson (Randy); her son, Charles “Chuck” Huseman, Jr. (Kelly); her stepchildren, Diana Saxton (Matt), Lexy Riddle (Shawn) and Danny G. Ortiz (Rosa); her cherished grandchildren, Emily, Collin, Kaitlyn and Genevieve; and her step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her mother, Maria Guzman, along with extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her beloved first husband, Charles Anthony Huseman, Sr., and her sister, Vilma Vieras.
Though her passing was sudden and heartbreaking, Ily leaves behind a lifetime of memories, laughter and love that will forever be cherished by her family.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 26, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Robert E. Evans Funeral Home in Bowie, Maryland.
Funeral and interment services scheduled for the morning of Tuesday, October 27, 2026 at 11 a.m.
