James Alan Evans, son of Candace B. Currence and James Webster Evans (deceased) transitioned to his heavenly home on Monday, February 26,2018. He was born December 16,1969 in Washington DC. He attended Georgetown and St. Aidan Montessori Schools in NW D.C. during his formative years .The family moved to Greensboro, NC. in 1977. There he attended Brightwood Christian Academy and Vandalia Elementary School.
He moved to Mitchellville, MD when his Mom married William “Bill” Currence in 1980 and attended area schools graduating from Largo High in 1988. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mass Communication from Towson State University in 1994.
James was a charming, gregarious young man who enjoyed a wide range of interests as he entered the work force in Towson, MD . But computer technology proved to be his best fit as he worked in that field at the State Department, McCormick’s and Loyola University in Baltimore over a 10 year period following graduation.
He was diagnosed with End Stage Kidney Disease in 2004 and has since then suffered several major health challenges. But everyone who has had contact with James, in and out of hospitals, will attest to the fact that he never complained, and genuinely trusted in the Lord Jesus he received at age 7, to bring him through each one.
James was a voracious reader and articulate on many subjects, so he daily matched wits with contestants on the TV show, Jeopardy, answering questions even they couldn’t. He enjoyed challenging the status quo of political, social and biblical thought, and was quick to lend an ear and then engage in fact-based repartee.
James will be sorely missed by his devoted mother, Candace, his Step-father, “Bill”, brothers, Stephen and Matthew of the home, his Step-mother, Karen Evans and brother, Alex Evans (Mary), niece, Amelia of Silver Spring, MD; his Uncle, Monty B. Bynum of Bronx, NY; his Great-Aunt “Nana” Hyla B. Cundiff of Geensboro, NC, his Great Aunt Olivia Jones of New York City, and many cousins and friends throughout the country.
He has fought the good fight of faith and finished his course, laying hold on eternal life.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial gifts be given to the National Kidney Foundation, Cornerstone Church or the Anne Arundel Medical Center.
