

Poynor, CEO of The Poynor Group literary agency, won the Emmys in 1983, 84 and 85, as Executive Producer of the Garfield animated television programs. He was employed as a Vice-President of United Media, Inc. Later, he opened his own boutique literary agency where he successfully represented authors for Broadway Books, St. Martin’s, Penguin, Harlequin, Sourcebooks, Prentice Hall, Financial Times and others. In 1996, he was the Executive Producer of the #1 rated Balloonatiks Christmas Special on the Fox Kids channel.
Poynor, who lived most of his adult life in New York City, was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma School of Journalism,. In 1982, Jay was invited back to OU to be the Fourth Lecturer for the prestigious Cecil H. Brite Lecture Series in Advertising and Business Management. He spoke, thirty-two years ago, about the “Road to a fully wired America.”
Mr. Poynor is survived by his nieces, Jacqueline D. Byrd of Bowie, Barbara Buras, Beverly Hansen and Lori Jane Poynor of Arkansas, niece Patti Jo Summerlin of Alabama and nephews Robert Poynor of Arkansas and James Smith of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and all six of his siblings, including Maxine Dean of Bowie.
