She was also very active in the community in Cheverly, including receiving the Citizen of the Year award in 1979 for leading the effort to save Cheverly-Tuxedo Elementary School from closure. Her greatest joy in recent years was spending time with family and friends in Delaware where she especially enjoyed going to the “boards” with her granddaughters. She loved her cat Sadie and her Yorkies Pippy and Taylor.
