To the Bowie family, I was the basketball coach at Bowie State when John played there. I'll always have fond memories of him. His quick smile, positive attitude and intelligent play made him a favorite with everyone associated with our teams. Everyone who knew him at Bowie will miss him.

There are some things important to the class of ‘72. Without argument it was sports. It’s was basketball that united us. We had special songs. We had special cheers. We had Pom poms. We had unity. We had the BEST basketball team. No one can take this away. Thank you for the HISstory John Bowie. Thank you for the spirit that now lives in all of us. As an ancestor we honor you with LOVE and LIGHT and send the prayer of comfort to family and friends.

John was always a kind and caring individual. I hadn't seen him in many years, but will never forget his friendship along with the many lessons he put me through on the basketball court. RIP!

I played High School Basketball with John. We were good friends on and off the court. He was a gentle guy and uncomplicated. He was a fierce competitor and the type of guy you wanted on your team. He was a part of the DuVal Sr High Basketball Team triple threat (Bowie, Bernard and Williams) that the press wrote about at the time. RIP John. I will see you on the other side.

I remember when I met you at Ridgecrest Elementary when me and your wife started our careers in education. As me and your wife became better friends, I got to know the gentle, loving husband and father you were. Gentle giant and friend, R.I.P . Love, Audrey

I remember watching you growing up, you were smart then but wanted to be better. We nicknamed you Peanut, but I won't tell why.
I know your mother has been smiling down on you and very pleased at the man you became.
Now that you have gone on to be with the Lord from labor to reward, I know that your mother is waiting to welcome you with opened arms!
Missing you... Love uncle John

As a basketball manager for the Maryland Terrapins in the early 90's I had the pleasure of working closely with John for 4 years.
John had his quirks as we all do, but always treated us and his other colleagues with respect and dignity. He took great pride in being part of the Terrapin program. I remember Adrian and Darrin as little guys running around the gym back then. John became a glowing father watching from the stands when his son joined the team years later.
The things I remember most was his infectious smile and boisterous laugh. Rest in Peace JB. Thoughts and Prayers to the family.

Sincere condolences to the Bowie family. I met John Bowie in October 1990 when I began playing basketball for the University of Maryland at College Park. We always had a positive conversation when we spoke. During my two years on the basketball team, those conversations became weekly and at times, daily conversations. John was a great friend to me. Rest in Peace John Bowie. Your friend, Frankie Nice
