Born with a generous heart and a sharp sense of humor, John lived a full and meaningful life defined by hard work, loyalty, and laughter. A proud Marine and Vietnam War Veteran, he served his country with honor and carried that same steadfastness and integrity into every part of his life that followed.
After his service, John built a long career as a skilled floor layer—a trade he took pride in and approached with the same precision and work ethic that marked everything he did. He was the kind of man who could fix just about anything, tell a story worth hearing and rehearing, and make anyone feel welcome with a quick smile or a perfectly timed joke.
In his younger years, John enjoyed playing tennis and could often be found on the court competing with the same determination and humor that carried him through life. He also enjoyed a good pool game among friends. He was known for his quick wit, big heart, and the ability to make anyone feel at ease with a story or a laugh.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen Dowell; his daughters, Eileen Berke (Travis Berke) and Christine Bruner (Tommy Bruner). He was a proud grandfather to Alyssa Newcomb (Jay Newcomb), Collin Berke, McKenna Bruner, and Katie Bruner, and a joyful great-grandfather to Delilah Newcomb.
He is also survived by his siblings Joan Rynders, Janet Warnick, Jenny Spicer, Jae Dowell, and Jeffrey Dowell, along with many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss his warmth and humor.
