
Joseph Abel Gallant died on December 22, 2017. He was a 3-year resident of Brightview South River in Edgewater, and previously of Heritage Harbour in Annapolis. Joe was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts on February 21, 1919 and served his country during WWII as a U.S. Marine, aboard the U.S.S. Monticello. After his service, Joe worked for the U.S. government as a claims examiner with the Department of Labor. Joe was married for 71 years to Betty Theresa Gallant who died in 2016. After retirement, Joe and Betty enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. Joe volunteered to help people fill out their income tax forms. He also learned to carve duck decoys. Joe is survived by his daughter Christine Mitchell, his brother Robert Gallant, his sister Jeanne Jarvis, two granddaughters, Jeanne Westmoreland and Susan Devaney, and great-grandson Luke Westmoreland. Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 5, 2018 at the Robert E. Evans Funderal Home, 16000 Annapolis Road, Bowie, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 515 Loch Haven Road, Edgewater, MD 21037. A reception will follow. Interment will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, MD. If desired, Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.
