

Lina Emily Bowers was born on February 26, 1929 to Rosa and Moses P. Bowers, Sr. in Clarksville, VA. She was one of three children. Lina attended elementary, junior and senior high school in Virginia. She completed her education at Virginia State University.
Lina’s passion and curiosity for learning prompted her training in education. She taught business education in Virginia and Maryland. She retired from the Prince George’s County Public School system with over 30 years service after last serving as a teacher and as the Business Education Chair for Frederick Douglass High School in Upper Marlboro, MD.
Lina was a 30 year lifetime member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and a member of the Prince George's County Alumnae Association Chapter. She served in multiple leadership roles over the years in the Carsondale Civic Association. Lina also served over 15 years with the Prince George’s County Board of Elections. A 33 year member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Lina served most recently in the IT Ministry, Senior Ministry, Circle 12 Ministry, New Member Ministry, Women’s Ministry and she was a member of the Chancel Choir.
Lina was a generous spirit who found joy in cooking, identifying and preparing new recipes, gardening, reading and community service. She cherished her time with family and was always a proud and devoted Auntie.
Lina is survived by her niece, Charlotte; nephew, Chauncey; niece-in-law, Carolyn; three great nieces, Ashley, Anna, Abigail; one great nephew, Elijah; and numerous other relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her parents, Moses and Rosa, a younger sister, Sissie Mae, who died as a child, her brother Moses, Jr. and her sister-in-law Willa.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shiloh Baptist Church Scholarship Fund in memory of Lina Bowers.
Checks should be made payable to Shiloh Baptist Church with an accompanying note attached to indicate:
1. contribution amount,
2. donation to the Scholarship Fund, and
3. that the contribution is in memory of Lina Bowers.
