

Mabel Rae McGann, 84, of Bowie, MD passed away on Jan. 22, 2021. Mabel was born on June 11, 1936 in Edenton, NC to Thelma Goodwin Tynch and Charles Spurgeon Tynch. She was raised on a farm and was one of nine children. Upon graduating from Chowan High School she moved to Washington, DC to work as a secretary for the F.B.I. While living in Washington, DC she met her future husband, Raymond George McGann. They married in March of 1957. After several short moves they bought a house in Lanham, Maryland and moved to Bowie in late 1968.
Both Mabel and Ray became active members of St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church in Bowie. Mabel worked at the Brady company and then as a secretary for Drs. Mennitt and Daly.
Mabel was very social and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Other interests included reading, sewing, baking cookies and playing bridge. She was especially fond of playing games with her grandchildren. Her adventurous spirit led her to take many trips within the United States and to foreign countries. She loved all animals and loved being outside and often commented on the beautiful birds, especially cardinals, that she could watch from her back porch.
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, her parents, Thelma and Spurgeon Tynch, her sister, Betty Asbell, brothers, Charles Tynch and Carroll Tynch. Survivors include: Daughter, Kathi Flammang and Husband Harry Flammang of Arnold, MD, Son, Chris McGann of Bowie and daughter Holly Robinson and Husband Jim Robinson of Woodbine, MD. Grandchildren: Allie, Matt and Lauren Flammang of Arnold, MD. Kaylee, Ray, Mary Mae, Charlie and Lilianna Robinson of Woodbine, MD. Sisters: Jeanette White of Colerain, NC, Marjorie Fulghum of Newport News, VA, Brothers: Stanley Tynch (Francis), Aubrey Tynch (Carol) and Ricky Tynch (Marie) all of Edenton, NC, Brothers in law Bill McGann, of Bowie and Ray Asbell, Sister in Law, Ruby Tynch of Edenton, Cousin Barbara (Parker) Copeland of Elizabeth City, NC. Plus many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021, at Evans Funeral Home in Bowie, MD from 2:00-4:00 pm and from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. A graveside Service will be held at Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville on Friday, Feb. 5, 2021 at 11:00AM. All are welcome.
