May 10, 1926 – October 8, 2020
Margaret Brown was born on May 10, 1926 to Elmore and Dora Carr Gee, in the loving home of her paternal grandparents, in Dendron, Virginia. Margaret transitioned from this life into the arms of her Heavenly Father on October 8, 2020, the result of complications following Covid-19 infection.
As an infant, Margaret's family moved to Norfolk, Virginia where they attended the First Calvary Baptist Church. At age nine, Margaret's family moved to Washington, DC where she attended the Tenth Street Baptist Church. In 1952, a fellow co-worker invited Margaret to attend service at the First Baptist Church of Deanwood where she soon thereafter became a member. She sat on the Senior Usher Board, was a missionary, and a member of the Friendly Circle Group. She was baptized by Reverend Allen in 1953, and remained a devoted member until her death.
In the summer of 1957, Margaret met the love of her life, Lewis (Lew) Brown. The couple married in 1958, and have two children Karen and Lewis Michael. In 1971 the family moved to Brandywine, Maryland to build their dream house. It took 2 ½ years from start to completion and was, for decades, the venue for hosting all the family gatherings.
Margaret was a social butterfly and enjoyed years long memberships in the Femmes Continental, Jack & Jill, Bonanza Club, and Club 39ers. Margaret and Lewis also hosted many parties and were best known for their annual Christmas/New Years holiday brunches. Her hobbies included canning fruits and vegetables, playing games, puzzles, surfing the web (for fashion), watching Wizards games, and traveling.
Margaret is survived by her husband of 61 years, Lewis E. Brown; her children Karen (Jerome) and Lewis Michael; her grandchildren Christina, Ashley (Fred), Charles, Shaye, Jeffrey (Liz), Ronje’, Michael Tsade, Izaiah, Aaron, and Izrael; her great grandchildren Zoe, Avery, and Cataleya; and, a host of extended family members and friends.

Margaret was an excellent wife and mother and was deeply loved by the Troy family. Margaret’s mother was my maternal grandmother’s sister. I will miss Margaret very much but I know she is truly in a better place. Karen and Michael may be heart-broken right now but I know they (and Lewis) will continue to feel Margaret’s love through this most difficult time. Karen is more sister than cousin to me and can call on me anytime. The Scotts and Ricks families love you all with all of our hearts. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

I attended a family Christmas gathering That featured Margies husband Lewis’s homemade Egg Nog. So, he hands Margie a medium size glass of the concoction to taste as her approval would determine if it indeed , was on point for his time tested recipe. Well, Margie takes a small sip and another Then proceeds to drink all of it and with a smile tells her husband it was good. Lewis takes the glass and says, ok but, You drank my taste too! Margie says , Well...My taste was on the bottom !!! Right then and there , I knew what had kept this couple together for so many years . Lewis , Hang on to the memories , Margie ...Rest Well Lady ! ❤️
