Marie (Maria) E. Poole, of Bowie, Maryland, passed away at home on January 24, 2025, surrounded by her loving mother, siblings, and sons. Marie was born in Darby, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia, on January 14, 1948, the daughter of Joan and John Mastripolito.
In November 1968, Marie would embark on her greatest role as a mother and homemaker. While she had other vocations, motherhood was her first love. Marie was so proud of every accomplishment of her sons and grandchildren. In later years, you would often hear her recount of their successes, both big and small. She loved parties and being a hostess. The bigger the better, and the more the merrier. She would happily host everything from small gatherings to massive Halloween parties. An excellent cook, the aroma of her spaghetti sauce would fill her home at Christmas, and wonderful home-cooked meals were often served. All were welcome at any time of day.
Marie loved animals and surrounded herself with cats and dogs. She studied diligently to become a licensed dog groomer. While not practicing much, the certification brought her joy and pride. She was regularly caring for wild animals as well. Watering the bird baths and providing seeds or peanuts for the birds and squirrels were more than just a hobby.
When all her children were grown, Marie went home to live with and care for her parents. While she would not share it openly, she cherished the time that she was able to spend with her father before his passing, and she was grateful for the wisdom and companionship of her mother.
Marie was a faithful Catholic woman and found great peace in praying the rosary or watching daily mass on EWTN. A rosary was never far, and rarely would you have a conversation where a saint or religious topic didn’t arise. She looked forward to Wednesdays, when “Jesus would be brought” to their home by their Eucharistic Minister. Marie was not afraid to share her passion in the Lord, and it served as an inspiration to those around her.
Marie is survived by her mother, Joan Mastripolito, and four siblings, John (Jack) Mastripolito, Jude Masters and his wife Susie, Mary Jo Mastripolito, and Mark Mastripolito and his wife Thelma; and her four children, Jude (Todd) Poole and his wife Lori, John Poole and his wife Chelsea, Justin Poole and his wife Erin, and Joshua Poole and his fiancée Cheyenne. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Family and friends will gather at the Robert E. Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Road, Bowie, Maryland, on Friday, February 7, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Chapel. Burial will take place in the Church Cemetery.
