When we first moved to the neighborhood, Mike was the first person we met. The yard was looking a little shaggy, and Mike offered a Jim the use of his lawnmower. That always makes me smile. I will miss looking out my windows while working and seeing him puttering in the yard, at war with the leaves and squirrels. When he found out the squirrels had eaten the wiring in my car, he offered to help take them out with me. When we’d go on vacation, I never worried about the house, because I knew he was there. I can’t think of him without smiling. He was a good man, and we will miss him. You and your family are in our prayers. If you need anything, we are right across the street. God bless and keep you all.

I used to work with Mike doing zoning inspections for PG County government. Mike was very supportive and shared his knowledge and experiences. Mike and I had conversations about our families, our western boots, and exchanged notary services for each other. He always maintained a calm and easy disposition. I remember one year with did secret Santa with the staff and Mike had pulled my name. We had to list three gifts that we wanted. Well, one of my gift wishes was a John Legend live concert on DVD; and Mike bought it for me. I'll never forget the warm smile that was on his face when he saw me behaving like a little kid when I opened my gift. Then he said "I'm your secret Santa." It was so nice working with him and I'll never forget him. So, Kelly and family, may you find comfort in all of your memories. I wish you all endless blessings always.

One of the first people I met when I moved to Bowie was Officer Mike! He would always wave hi as I was walking my dog Luci. I stopped said hi and the rest is history. He would be the first house on our block to put up any holiday decorations, my family would say don’t put anything up until officer Mike does! He would always check on how we were getting along as newly relocated from NYC. No words could express how much we loved him and all the family! RIP sweet Neighbor love you too Luci

Dear O'Connell Family:
Please know that you are in my prayers constantly. Mike was wonderful guy. He was a role model, a great dad, husband and even a better grandfather. He served his country and community with commitment and honor. He will always live in your hearts.
May God bless you and hold you in his hands during this period of grief.
Love you.

Dear Kelly and Family,

I have the fondest memories of “back in the day”. Dispatching to Mike and then becoming friends with him and his soulmate Kelly was so much fun. We were all so young. I remember the parties, the nights at the old FOP 89. We were invincible. Mike was one of the finest men and police officers it has been my privilege to know, and his presence will be missed greatly. Kelly, I can’t be at the funeral, but please know that my thoughts and prayers will be there with you.

There is no way to express the profound sadness we share with Kelly and the family. A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend was lost. God will bring a peaceful rest to Mike, and he also needs to bring comfort to the family and all their friends who are just so shocked and saddened. Rest in peace Mike.

Spent many years with Mike [and Kelly] supporting our sons Mike and Mike on and off the soccer field and at Spalding High School. Shared many great times and appreciate all he did to contribute to their teams. Rhonda and I will miss seeing him around the Pines. Our thoughts are with his family.
