Nancy Ann Rogers
August 3, 1930 – March 24, 2021
Nancy A. Rogers, resident of Bowie MD., peacefully passed away on March 24, 2021 at Doctor’s Community Hospital in Lanham, MD. Nancy was born on August 3, 1930 to DeWitt Rogers and Tensie Reeves in Bristol, TN. She graduated from Slater High School in Bristol, TN and went on to graduate from North Carolina Central in Durham, NC with a B.S. degree in History.
Nancy lived in Washington, DC for a number of years and worked for the Federal Government as a Cartographer. Shortly thereafter, she moved to San Francisco, CA where she absolutely loved her home at 245 Tocoloma Ave., residing there for 30+ years. Nancy loved her gardening, cooking and playing the card game of BidWiz with her Daddy and friends. She dearly enjoyed going to open house showings, particularly Victorian style homes, in San Francisco to pick up decorating ideas. Weekly, she always had fresh cut flowers throughout her home. One of her favorites was the orange Bird of Paradise.
Nancy constantly bragged about the beauty of San Francisco and encouraged many family members to visit, which they did. Nancy prided herself on being an excellent tour guide. She also loved volunteering at her local hospital to hold and rock compromised babies and became a patient advocate for hospital patients. Nancy was an avid reader of books, specifically autobiographies. She enjoyed reading the daily newspaper and her most favorite publications – TIME and People magazines.
Long after her retirement, family convinced her to return to the DMV area and subsequently in 2008 she bought her second beloved home in Bowie, MD. Nancy loved driving her Tracer (car), never more than –20 miles from her home. She loved listening to talk radio and watching her favorite TV show “Judge Judy” faithfully at 5:00pm each day. At least three times per week, she spoke to her best “buddy cousin”, Dolores V. Clarke-Long and frequently kept in touch with her other cousin Pauletta (Cherry) James from Pittsburgh, PA. She also enjoyed talking with her long-lasting friends – Sue, Gertrude, Harriette, Miriam, and Charles. Every birthday, Nancy looked forward to Kevin Clarke (son to Dolores) bringing her two crab cakes from Timbuktu Restaurant in Hanover, MD. That was a special time together as they shared the same birthdate.
Nancy had recently relocated to Arbor Terrace Assisted Living Community in Lanham, MD just 2 ½ months before her passing.
Nancy is survived by her sister Ida R. Ferguson, her two nieces Jaquenette R. Ferguson and Allyson D. Williams, her great nephew Travis D. Williams and great niece Taleah D. Williams, beloved first cousin Dolores V. Clarke-Long and cousin Pauletta (Cherry) James and her godson Donovan Stephens and a host of family and friends.
