

Peter L. (Pete) Babb, 82, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, formerly a longtime resident of Maryland, passed away on February 20, 2022. Peter was one of four children of the late Dr. Dudley C. Babb, Sr. and Margaretta (Lackey) Babb. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on November 27, 1939.
After Pete graduated from Hereford High School in 1957, he joined the United States Navy. Pete proudly served aboard the USS Intrepid (CV-11) as a Quartermaster. After his military service, Pete began his career in excavation contracting. He began as an equipment operator for a small excavation company in Timonium, Maryland. He later joined Harris & Brooks, an excavation company as an equipment supervisor. Later, Pete and Junior Harris formed Marvaco, Inc., another excavation company. Pete co-founded B & H Heavy Equipment, Inc., selling heavy construction equipment, and later became Executive Vice President of Metrex Excavating, Inc. Prior to his retirement, he served as officer, director and consultant for D.C. Materials, Inc. He retired in April 2014.
Pete was an avid NASCAR enthusiast and was operations chief and part owner of the Marvaco Racing Team. Pete and the Team spent many weekends traveling to and racing competitively for many years. Pete was an avid boater – he enjoyed traveling to many destinations by boat and was a man not to reckon with when it came to deep sea fishing! His love of outdoors over the years, also included riding his Harley Davidson, going to Bike Week and other events. Years later, the RV life replaced his love of boating and he and his wife, Debbie, traveled all over the United States in their motor home, including a stop in Babb, Montana.
Pete met the love of his life in 1987, Deborah L. (Wilson) Babb. They were happily married 25 years.
Pete was predeceased by his brother, Dudley C. Babb, Jr., parents, Dr. Dudley C. Babb Sr., and Margaretta (Lackey) Babb. He is survived by his wife, Deborah; his daughter Deborah Babb Stroback (Don); his stepsons; Robert (Dana) Oriolo, Richard (Jennice) Oriolo, Joseph Rodgers and Kenny Starlings. Sisters; Lucy (Vernon) Babb Wright and Margaretta Babb. Grandchildren; Paul Babb Donhauser, Matthew Neil Donhauser, Alec Oriolo, Dylan Oriolo, Morgan Oriolo, Logan Bailey, Shane Oriolo, Logan Oriolo, Kaitlyn Bailey, Isabella Oriolo, and Abigail Oriolo. He had one great grandson, Landon John Donhauser. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless lifelong friends and colleagues.
Family and friends may call at the Robert E. Evans Funeral Home, 16000 Annapolis Rd, Bowie, MD Friday, March 18, 4:00pm -7:00pm, and Saturday, March 19, 10:00am -12:00pm. A memorial service will be held immediately following.
