

Richard Allen Kelly, 69, passed away on January 16, 2025 after losing his battle with frontotemporal dementia. Rich was born in Washington D.C., the son of George and Mary Kelly of Arlington, VA. His family moved to Bowie, MD in 1961 where Rich spent most of his childhood. Rich graduated from Bowie Senior High School in 1973 then went on to the University of Maryland, College Park, where he received a bachelor’s degree in computer science in 1977.
Rich began his career with the Federal Government, working at the NSA complex in Fort Meade, MD for several years, before continuing on as a contractor with Computer Sciences Corporation. After a successful and rewarding 27-year career as a computer network engineer with CSC, Rich retired at his home in Columbia, MD.
Rich enjoyed a variety of pleasures in his life; he loved his cats and dogs, and enjoyed golf, roller skating, fitness, ski trips, travel, and wine tasting adventures. His greatest passion was photography; he was a freelance news photographer for the Bowie Blade newspaper for many years and carried on with his love of photography throughout his whole life. He was also a volunteer firefighter and EMT in the Bowie Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad for several years.
Rich is survived by his sister Theresa Kelly, of Odenton, MD, his identical twin brother Ronald and wife Kathleen Kelly of Myrtle Beach, SC and their daughter Stephanie Kelly of Savannah, GA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rich’s name to a charity of your choice.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Rich’s life on Sunday, February 23, at Ashling Kitchen and Bar located at 1286 Rte. 3, Crofton, MD, from 4:00-7:00 pm. All are invited to drop by at any time to say hello, or to stay for a while. A variety of fancy appetizers and drinks will be served.
