Russell Spargo

Russell Spargo of Bowie, Maryland age 79 died at home on September 28,2026. Beloved husband of Marie E. Spargo (Kerns); and father of Susan Liga (Brian), Kathleen Shay (Michael), Cynthia Spargo, and Russell J. Spargo. He is also survived by his brother, John Spargo (Valerie) and brother-in-law John Kerns. Russ was predeceased by his parents Russell and Patricia Spargo of Lusby, Maryland. He leaves behind grandchildren: Bradley Liga (Kate), Josie Liga, Nick Liga, Abbie Liga, Jordan Liga, Brayden Liga, Kaitlyn Shay, Lily Shay, Colin Shay, Ryan Shay, Luke Shay, Sebastian Sancho-Davila and nieces, Mary Spargo and Debbie Mullin (Kerns) and nephews John Kerns and Jimmy Kerns.

Russ was truly a family man and devout Roman Catholic. He loved watching his children and grandchildren grow up. He often attended football, lacrosse, soccer and other sports to watch his family compete. Russ’s interests included duckpin bowling and professional sports. He was an avid Redskins (Commanders) and Nationals fan. Russ made friends easily and family often joked that he never met a stranger. He had a hearty laugh and a strong high-five!

Russ started his career in the U.S. Navy. He then worked at the United Parcel Service until retirement. He enjoyed activities at St. Pius X Catholic Church and took joy in being a Lector. He was a long-time member of the Catholic Cana Group which emphasized the importance of having a Christ centered marriage. Russ was willing to help wherever he was needed. He was a devoted son, husband, father, Pops and brother.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 14720 Annapolis Road, Bowie MD 20715.
