On Monday, January 21, 2013, Shirley Genevieve Sylvester, of Selbyville, DE, formally of Crofton, MD. ,beloved wife of the late Edward G. Sylvester, beloved mother of Kathleen A. Brown (Daniel), Timothy E. Sylvester (Nancy), and Tomas C. Sylvester (Vicky) , grandmother of Carey Ballinger, Nicole McIntyre, Daniel Sylvester, and Scott Sylvester, great-grandmother of Evan and Lia Ballinger passed away from natural causes. Mrs. Sylvester born June 26, 1923 in Jeanette, Pennsylvania, graduated from Jeanette HS in 1941 then went on to complete her Registered Nurse training at St. John’s General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA in 1944. She then proudly served her country as a General Duty Nurse for the US Army at the Aberdeen Maryland Military Hospital from 1945 to 1946 where she was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and Meritorious service award. After an honorable discharge, she continued her education and received her BS in Nursing from Duquesne University in 1944. She worked as a Pediatric Floor Nurse at Anne Arundel General Hospital from 1968 to 1985. A Catholic mass will be offered at 1PM Friday, January 25, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Crofton, MD. Interment will follow at 2:30 PM at Maryland Veterans Cemetery Crownsville, MD. A gathering of friends and family will be held at the Annapolis Elks Club, 2517 Solomon’s Island Road Edgewater, MD 21037 from 3:30 PM to 5 PM after the cemetery service. All who knew Shirley and her family are very warmly welcomed to attend and to share their stories and memories of her life.
